Active in Costa Rica 2
Hammeke and the Active guys stop by an orphanage and skate some spots with the locals in Costa Rica.
We visited an orphanage to drop off clothes that the guys at Active had collected for donations
The soccer ball we bought for warm-up hack sessions was quickly commandeered from the crew
The kids were real interested in Nuge’s tattoos
While they were skating outside the fence of the orphanage, one of the workers warned us that the neighborhood is sketchy and that the local drug warlords may be plotting an ambush of our van. Good to know, and on that note, we were out of there
Back in a safer part of town was a skatepark in a schoolyard
Daniel Chacon showed us his expertise in heel flippage
Making friends with the locals can really save some time and energy when finding the good spots. Plus, as a total bonus, you make new friends who can crash on your couch if they make it to The States. Diego was our main spot guide. He ain't no chicken, especially when it came to talking to the authorities
Hubert rolled with us most every day. He really exemplified the "Go for it" attitude. Here, he blasts the transfer that Dan Pensyl had a photo of in the mag a few years ago
They took us to lots of really good spots, like this hubba. Figgy pays homage to his new TM at Emerica, sliding a few front noses for Heath
The locals each get a piece of it too. Diego with a back 50
The crew has gotten quite thick by the next spot, but everyone's stoked to be there. Hubert exemplifies his approach
Figgy, paying in pain to get his trick in the mag
Bryan took this 180 switch all the way down the ramp and more
In a true testament that skate rats around the world will make due with whatever they've got to skate, check what Carlos can do on what little is left of his board

My War: David Reyes
A two-hour session at Clipper is gnarly, but that’s just the first of six trips for David. Hundreds of attempts and a literal pistol whipping all played their part in this epic saga for an ender. -
