Forrest Edwards Interview

Words: Mike Hubert | Photos: Dan Zaslavsky

What’s the biggest misconception people have of you?
The biggest misconception people have is that I’m super cocky, or people think I’m an asshole.

Would you say that people misconceive your confidence for cockiness?
They can misconceive that about me. Like, I could say, “Those stairs are small.” But everyone knows the stairs are obviously not small, because you’re looking up to the stairs. But people don’t try to go any further past that. They never see me skate in person so they misconceive things about me. They’ve never met me.

I heard you tré flip 50-50’d Hollywood High two times in a row. Is that true?
Yeah.

Why’d you do it twice?
’Cause I felt like it.

Was that the same day you switch 360 flipped the 12?
Yeah. I didn’t have nothing else to do, so I did it.

Have you ever been to jail?
I’ve been to jail. Fuck.

How long were you in jail for?

Three hours…

That’s not very long!
Good. I don’t need to be in there.

What gets you psyched to skate?

Skating with my friends gets me psyched to skate. The fuckin’ Zero video, Baker video, Toy Machine video, Deathwish video, Shake Junt, Emerica video, brand new boards and brand new shoes, some chicks, beer, some trees, and me, dude. I just psyche myself up.

How’d you feel when you were asked to film a part for the Thrasher site?
I felt good. Anyone would fuckin’ feel good if someone asked them to film a Thrasher part.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In five years? Dude, I don’t imagine anything that far out.

You can’t think that far ahead?
I can, but fuck. Why? I told you, dude. I forget what year it is, I forget what day it is, I forget what I did yesterday—I forget a lot of shit.

Do you remember what trick you landed yesterday?
I don’t even care about that trick, man. That shit was gay. What did you ask me? I forgot the question.

I asked where you see yourself in five years.
I’ll have my own house and my own car. I’ll be set in five years; that’s it. I won’t be in no struggle no more.

Is there anybody you wanna thank or give a shout-out to?
I wanna thank God, Thrasher, you, all my friends, and my mom.
